Important Dates
Film screening and talk with Afro-German director Ines Johnson-Spain
27.09.2022, 10 am
Bayreuth, Cineplex
On 27 September 2022, the Afro-German director Ines Johnson-Spain will be a guest at the Cluster of Excellence "Africa Multiple" at the University of Bayreuth. In recent years, she has become publicly known mainly for her autobiographical documentary film "Becoming Black", which deals with the childhood of a black girl in a white family in the GDR. On Tuesday, 27.09.2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cineplex Bayreuth, the director will present her film to pupils of the Berufliche Oberschule (FOS/BOS) and the Markgräfin-Wilhelmine-Gymnasium (MWG). Immediately following the film screening, there will be a discussion about the social and ethical issues addressed in "Becoming Black": Belonging, social norms, family concepts and persistent racism.
The meeting with Ines Johnson-Spain is organised by the Cluster of Excellence "Africa Multiple" and the "Project, Learning and Resource Platform Africa" (PLURA) at the University of Bayreuth. Together, both institutions, in cooperation with the Didactics of Geography at the University of Bayreuth, want to bring Africa-related topics closer to pupils - without the clichés and stereotypes that are still frequently encountered.
