Lecture: The Thesis of the Single Erection - Disaggregating Patriarchy
Tuesday, 11.07.2023 - 4-6 pm
Uni Bayreuth, S58, RWI / Zoom
Divine Fuh
As part of the Lecture Series “African FeminismS Past and Present” the Junior Research Group "Intersectionality" led by Dr. Serawit Debele organises the
Lecture: The Thesis of the Single Erection - Disaggregating Patriarchy
delivered by Divine Fuh, Director of HUMA – Institute for Humanities in Africa and associate professor of Anthropology at the University of Cape Town.
The lecture introduces the idea of "a philosophy of the single erection" - this provocation builds on a decolonial critique of 'masculinities' as an
invention and unwarranted distraction away from dislodging gender power imbalances, to push for a disagregation of patriarchy and its
modes of operation.
Discussants are:
Dr. Faisal Garba, Department of Sociology at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and Dr. Cassandra Thiesen-Mark, Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence, Bayreuth University (UBT)
