Stadt Land Kunst: Spezial Elfenbeinkünste

For the fourth time, an event as part of the "AfriKaleidoskop meets ARTE" event series will take place on May 22, 2024 at 7 pm. The Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence at the University of Bayreuth, in collaboration with the cultural station ARTE, invites you to a presentation of the documentary "Stadt Land Kunst: Spezial Ivory Coast" followed by a discussion at the Kulturhaus Neuneinhalb in Bayreuth.

The event will be held in German and is free of charge. The discussion will be recorded and may later be found in ARTE's event media library.

Um dem ständigen Druck in New York zu entkommen, reiste der afro-amerikanische Künstler Jean-Michel Basquiat in die Elfenbeinküste und begegnete einer immens reichen Kulturszene. Dort setzte er sich mit der afrikanischen Identität auseinander, die er für seine Kunst in den USA beansprucht. Der Film begibt sich unter anderem auf den Spuren des „enfant terrible” der Avant-garde-Szene. Eine Entdeckungsreise durch das westafrikanische Land, seine Kunst und Kultur.
