Embodied memory
Jean-Renat Anamah, Dance director, Dancesite
Nowadays, after long years of being a mauritian citizen, being one of major artist in Mauritius ,from innocent ,uncertain time as "Insular " to matured international artist, I want to bring this precised speech .The one to pass over a flashback ; through uncertain ,still uncertain -gap of real history ,any real marks to road for culture . What about identity ? whereas since childhood been in cohabitation with all these fabulous multi-ethniques on the island . Been myself actor of the tourism sector ( this economic explosion brought by post-colonial period ).This specific created zone for tourism attraction .All these sensible subjects have been " motor " for my dance works .Still being suppressed by "Dominant powers " .still being ruled, directed in a modern Mauritius subjected to powerful men who possess most lands ,most plantations, most jobs opportunities. While meantime they want monopolise the "Arts and culture "too.
I should be the rare one to voice out ,to question ,to manifest .My dance work is my decent tool. Also an academic one as tertiary ,french university in Mauritius believe that dance art'form-the body expression is one of the means for historic, patrimonial research platform .
