Presenter, producer, director, actress and lecturer
*1963, Germany
Mo Asumang Mo Asumang became Germany's first Afro-German TV presenter in 1996, hosting the programme Liebe Sünde (Love Sin) with a weekly rating of over 2 million viewers. Since then she has worked as a presenter, producer, director, actress and lecturer. As an actress, Mo Asumang can be seen in Roman Polanski's film The Ghostwriter in the role of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, among others.
In addition, the multi-talented actress has dedicated herself to the topic of racism and integration. This was triggered by a death threat from the neo-Nazi band "White Aryan Rebels", who sang the lyrics "The bullet is for you, Mo Asumang". Shocked Mo was inspired to search for her identity as a black German in the film Roots Germania.
In her documentary Road to Rainbow - Welcome to South Africa (2010), Mo Asumang questions where the dream of equality has remained after the end of apartheid in South Africa. In her documentary The ARIER (2014), ("Grimme Preis" nominated), in which Mo meets international racists, the Ku Klux Klan and the true Aryans, one always senses the sensitive human being alongside the activist and filmmaker. In addition to her artistic work, Mo visits schools and universities around the world to advocate for integration and courageously approach the issue of racism from a new perspective.
For her 3sat series “Mo Asumang and …” Mo met misogynists and homophobes, radical leftists, lateral thinkers, racists and fundamental Christians. With this documentary the filmmaker wanted to counter the societal drift with dialogue. The six-part series took her to the extreme ends of the social spectrum. In all of these encounters, Mo Asumang is concerned with showing a clear edge against radical views. However, she also strives to understand what moves people who position themselves in this way - and what drives them. In this way, the series tries to promote dialogue - a dialogue that seems more urgently needed today than ever before.
