NEW YEAR LECTURE 2025
will take place on
23 January 2025 from 6-8 pm (CET)
It will be held by Mirrianne Mahn, political activist, author, theatre person, city councilor in Frankfurt am Main and freelance consultant for diversity development
and will be entitled:
Intersectionality as a Living Practice: Beyond Labels and Boundaries
Mirrianne Mahn
At a time when nationalist and discriminatory ideologies are increasingly permeating the mainstream, the cultural scene is particularly challenged to take responsibility. But how can cultural practitioners really design their stages as spaces for representation and inclusion? This question is at the centre of Mirrianne Mahn's lecture Intersectionality as a Living Practice: Beyond Labels and Boundaries. Mahn shows how intersectional approaches can become the basis for a more open and just society by going far beyond a theoretical concept and becoming a living practice.
Mahn herself embodies an intersectional way of life through her diverse roles as a politician, education officer, playwright, and author. Whether on stage, in parliament, in the literary canon or on the street, Mahn unites different identities and responsibilities and understands the power structures and challenges that come with them. Her approach calls for a rethinking in cultural work and advocates for genuine collaboration with marginalized perspectives that are already included in the planning phase - not just when media pressure arises.
