Pr. Alpha Amadou Bano Barry is a university professor at **University of Conakry-Sonfonia** in Guinea, where he has taught since 2013. His research focuses on the anthropology of health, epidemics, political sociology, ethnicity, development, family sociology, and gender studies. Pr. Barry earned his PhD in Sociology from the **Université de Montréal** in 1998, with a dissertation on collective violence in Guinea. His earlier studies include a Master’s in Sociology from the **University of Ottawa** (1991), where he examined ethnic dynamics in Guinea’s democratization process, and a Diploma of Higher Studies in Sociology from **Université de Conakry** (1989).
Pr. Barry has authored and co-authored numerous studies and reports, including significant works on the social determinants of health in Guinea, the impact of Ebola, and the persistence of female genital mutilation/excision practices. His collaborative publications extend to health crises, including analyses of Ebola’s impact on healthcare provision and socio-cultural resistance to treatment, as supported by organizations such as UNICEF and USAID. Additionally, Pr. Barry has contributed to edited volumes addressing the multifaceted social and political dimensions of epidemics in West Africa.
