Nestor Zante is a socio-anthropologist and specialist in African studies. He examines how non-state security actors contribute to security governance within contexts of state vulnerability. His doctoral research at the University of Leipzig, Germany, focused on local security organizations in Burkina Faso, particularly the Koglwéogo group.
Throughout his career, Nestor has held various research positions, notably with a DFG-funded project on local self-regulation in weak state contexts. In this role, he has conducted comparative studies, led research, and contributed to the development of new knowledge across interdisciplinary fields. He also worked as a lecturer and researcher at the University of Leipzig, and currently at the University of Bayreuth as an interim professor in social and cultural anthropology.
His research interests cover a broad range of critical topics, including community security, social movements, civil society and vigilantism. Working with both quantitative and qualitative research methods, Nestor employs a variety of data analysis and programming tools, including Python, SQL, Tableau, Power BI, and MaxQDA.
